Travel Awards

FASEB MARC Travel Award

The FASEB MARC Program provides funding for travel awards to support the participation of Faculty/Mentors and Students, and Poster/Platform (Oral) Presenters at the SSR Annual Meeting. The fellowships help to defray meeting registration and travel-related expenses (lodging, transportation, per diem) for eligible underrepresented minority undergraduate and graduate students, post-baccalaureates, postdoctorates, junior faculty and mentors/faculty scientists in the biomedical and behavioral sciences More information about the FASEB MARC Travel Award is available on the Trainee Meeting Information page.

Burroughs Wellcome Travel Fellowships

A generous grant from the Burroughs Wellcome Fund makes possible travel fellowships for underrepresented Minority Trainees and Junior Faculty. Each fellowship will cover registration and reimbursment up to USD $1,500.00 for housing and travel. Four minority trainees and one minority junior faculty will be selected to receive these fellowships.

Minority Affairs Health Disparities Symposium, Forum and Luncheon

The Minority Affairs Health Disparities Symposium, Forum and Luncheon is generously funded by FASEB MARC through a grant from the National Institute of General Medical Sciences, National Institutes of Health T36-GM08637.

The Minority Affairs Health Disparities Symposium, Forum, and Luncheon will be held Monday 20 July, from 11:45 am to 2:00 pm, and will feature James R. Gavin III, M.D., Ph.D. (Emory University School of Medicine, Fairburn, Georgia) speaking on the topic of health care disparities for minorities in the United States. After the lecture, a panel composed of Dr. Gavin and the Burroughs Wellcome Travel Fellows will engage the audience in an active forum regarding “Minority Populations, Health Disparities, and Research Opportunities.” The panel discussion will be moderated by Dr. Winston E. Thompson, Chair of the SSR Minority Affairs Committee.

There is no fee to attend the Symposium; it is open to all interested, registered attendees of the SSR Annual Meeting, and includes a buffet luncheon for Symposium attendees. Please indicate your intention to attend this function on the Annual Meeting Registration Form.
