Trainee Information

Trainee-Mentor Luncheon

The Trainee-Mentor Luncheon provides Trainee participants with the opportunity to talk about careers and science research with an SSR scientist during a catered lunch. For more information, please see the Trainee-Mentor Luncheon page.

Trainee Travel Grants and Awards

Several grants provide partial support for trainees to attend the SSR Annual Meeting by assisting with travel expenses.

Placement Service

SSR’s Trainee Affairs Placement Service provides a vehicle for introducing potential candidates to employers seeking to fill predoctoral, postdoctoral, industrial, technical, and faculty positions. This web-based service allows candidates and employers to connect in real time, anytime. Employers are encouraged to create an account, post their positions in advance of the annual meeting, and indicate whether a representative will be on site to meet with candidates. To use this service and view downloadable information, position seekers need only to set up an account and create a profile.

Trainee Forum

The 2013 Trainee Forum will take place on Friday, July 26, 2013, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. in the Palais des congrès, Room 518 (Schedule of Events).

It is open to all meeting attendees; however, you must be registered to attend. If you still need to register, you may do so on a first-come, first-served basis by sending an e-mail to trainees@ssr.org before 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, 23 July.

The Trainee Affairs Committee has assembled two panels of outstanding SSR members who have served or currently serve on search committees in academia, government, and the private sector to help attendees learn about the job options available to reproductive biologists, how to put together an outstanding job application package, how to give an outstanding interview, and what happens after receiving a job offer.

The roster of extraordinary mentors includes Dr. Sarah Robertson (University of Adelaide), Dr. Bruce Murphy (University of Montréal), Dr. Fuller Bazer (Texas A&M University), Dr. Humphrey Yao (National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences), Dr. Tom Curry (University of Kentucky), Dr. Mary Ann Handel (The Jackson Laboratory), and Dr. Charlotte Schubert (freelance science writer).

Roommate Referral Service

The SSR Roommate Referral Service maintains a list of attendees who are interested in sharing the cost of a hotel room for the 2013 Annual Meeting. SSR Trainee Member Florencia Ardon will manage this service for the Montréal meeting. If you would like to be part of the Roommate Referral Service, please fill out the Roommate Referral Form. Please act soon—the deadline for submissions to the Roommate Referral Service is Tuesday, 2 July.
