COVER LETTER

ABSTRACT

ETHICS

• Use of animals or tissues/cells that came from animals under your care or another author requires an ethics statement.
• Use of human subjects and/or tissues requires an ethics statement and statement of consent.
• If authors are from more than one institution, reference to approval by an IACUC must be specific (which institution’s IACUC).
• Contact the Editorial Office if you have any questions or would like an example.

SOURCE OF ANIMALS/CELLS/TISSUES

Source for animals/cells/tissues must be identified (i.e., from XYZ Company; raised on premises; obtained from Dr. M.B. Generous, Univ. of Philanthropy, City, State; from slaughterhouse, etc.).

REGISTERED OR TRADEMARK SYMBOLS

Do not include registered or trademark symbols in your manuscript.

SPECIAL CHARACTERS

Please write out special characters (e.g., Greek letters) in your title, summary sentence, abstract.

NO PMSG (Pregnant Mare Serum Gonadotropin)

PMSG must be replaced with eCG (equine Chronic Gonadotropin) in the text, tables, figures, and figure legends.

GENE/PROTEIN NOMENCLATURE

Papers will not be published if correct gene/protein nomenclature is not used. Please see the Nomenclature Guide here:

SECTION ORDER

LINE AND PAGE NUMBERING

• Please add line numbering to your manuscript starting at the Introduction section and ending at the reference list. Please use the word-processing feature “line numbering” to number the lines thus making it easy for reviewers to cite specific comments in their review. Please number consecutively, every five lines.
• Please number pages at the top right of each page, except the title page.

REFERENCES

• Abstracts may not be cited or listed as references unless the abstract is published in a regular issue of a readily available and indexed journal. In this case, the style for a journal article is used.
• References must be complete and formatted for BOR and linkable to PubMed.
• Please check for and eliminate duplicate references.

FIGURES/FIGURE LEGENDS

• Figures must be labeled (Figure 1, Figure 2, etc...).
• Micrographs must have accompanying magnification information.
• If possible, please upload figure source files at Revision. Contact the Editorial Office if you have questions about digital figures.
• Error bars in bar and line graphs must be defined (e.g., ± SEM, ± SD) in the figure legends.
• Bar graphs should not be 3-dimensional unless 3-dimensional data are displayed.

TABLES

If a table has only two columns (each row is only an item descriptor and a value), incorporate the data into the text and delete the table. Tables should include only essential data; please upload nonessential, but useful, information as supplemental data.

ORDER OF REFERENCES, TABLES, AND FIGURES

• List references, using Arabic numerals in brackets [ ], in order of appearance in the text.
• List Tables and Figures in order of appearance in text.

SUPPLEMENTAL DATA

Indicate in the cover letter if the data are for review purposes only or if the data are intended for publication with the online versions. If for review-purposes only, include text with the supplemental file indicating “for review purposes only.” If for publication, all supplemental data must be cited in the text using sequential naming (e.g., Please see Supplemental Table 1). Please include a separate header SUPPLEMENTAL DATA LEGENDS after the Figure legends, which staff will use to create the text for the online supplemental data.
