Sad news has reached us that Dr. Robert H. Foote died on October 27, 2008.
Dr. Robert H. Foote was a long-time member of SSR, was a member of the Board of Directors, 1998–2001, and President 1984–1985.

From 1997 through 2008, at Dr. Foote’s direction, the Robert E. Foote Lectureship Fund at Cornell University provided funding for Trainee programs at the SSR annual meetings, notably the Trainee Forum and the Trainee-Mentor Luncheon. Dr. Foote believed profoundly in mentoring young scientists, especially in a setting that encourages scientific discourse and informal conversation.
